Veerle Melis (1990, Tilburg, NL) is a self-taught artist with a Masters degree in Cultural Studies from the Radboud University of Nijmegen, NL.

Taking inspiration from her self-taught background, her work can be seen as an ongoing meditation on the ingenuity of (human) nature and on what it means to create. This entails a learning-through-making aproach, and labor-intensive, process-focused, sculptural works from textile and most recently paper and cardboard. Always acknowledging the different tangible and less tangible elements that gather in her practice, she uses humble materials to explore themes with contemporary and (pre)historical relevance in terms of functionality, decoration, architecture, hobby, and craftsmanship.

Recent exhibitions include San Mei Gallery in London (UK), Generation Brussels (BE), Hotel Maria Kapel in Hoorn (NL) and 10N in Brussels (BE).
