My wound is inside me. Inside.
It is the wound of lack of love.
Since you can’t see it, you say it isn’t here.*

Love, desire and intimacy in a seemingly emotionally cooled society have so far formed the contextual framework of my artistic practice. Love as a place of longing and artifact of a schizophrenic compulsion between desire and reality – rejection and disappointment. In search of an sensual-affective approach, I understand my installations and paintings as an attempt of opening new spaces as areas of interaction and communication. The artwork as a space, which is activated in and through body knowledge, the situatedness in such. Affect and emotion become meaningful actors in an expansion of the experience of space and body. Linked to strongly connotated materialities of latex, lacquer, silicone or steel, surfaces appear charged with libidinally promises. It’s a play with inside and outside, material and body, longing and uncertainty. Ultimately, I may raise the question of the status of love in a society determined by unlimited possibilities of consumption. Sophie Fitze (°1995 Germany) is a Brussels-based artworker. She graduated from HGB Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig in 2021 and is current participant in the Curatorial Studies program at KASK, Ghent.
