Ula Sickle (CA/PL) is an artist and choreographer based in Brussels. From a background in contemporary dance, she works across disciplines and often in dialogue with the visual arts and contemporary music. While her work can take many forms, from live performance for theatres and visual arts spaces, to photography and video, she focuses on a choreographic approach to movement and a work on perception and reception, specific to the live arts.
Ula was born in Toronto, Canada. She studied Art History at the University of Toronto and Université de Paris VIII, Dance and Choreography at P.A.R.T.S. Performing Arts Research and Training Studios in Brussels and Film and New Media at Le Fresnoy, Studio national des arts contemporains. Artist residencies include Ujazdowski Castle, Center for Contemporary Art, Warsaw in 2017 and Wiels, Brussels in 2018. She is currently a PhD researcher at Luca School of the Arts and KU Leuven.
Ula Sickle has been presented in many international theaters and venues such as Kaaitheater, KVS and Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Brussels BE), Wiener Festwochen, ImPulsTanz and TanzQuartier (Vienna AT), Teatr Nowy (Warsaw PL), Zodiak & Moving in November (Helsinki FI), Reykjavik Dance Festival (Iceland IS), B:OM Festival (Seoul KR), Zürcher Theater Spektakel (Zurich CH), Tanz im August (Berlin DE), les Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis and Le 104 (Paris FR), among others.
