In an interdisciplinary graphic design practice between Brussels and Rotterdam, Loes Verstappen (Someren, 1982) collaborates with makers, initiatives, publishers and institutions mostly within the cultural field. These joint efforts result in printed, digital and audible outcomes; in her practice, graphic design co-exists with research, writing and radio. Central to her work are analytic approaches, a symbiosis between content and form and distilled designs.
Verstappen obtained her BA degree at AKV|St.Joost in Breda, after which she worked for graphic design studio 75B, creating work for clients such as International Film Festival Rotterdam, NAi010, Metropolis M en the Van Abbemuseum. In her own practice she collaborates with Flat i, formally known as Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Erik Smits, Willem de Kooning Academy and Gyz la Rivière (amongst others). She recently obtained her MA degree at Leiden University, where she studied Cultural Analysis, Literature and Theory. Furthermore, she is one of the makers of Extra Extra Radio, a bimonthly radio show broadcast by NTS Radio, in which she takes care of the musical selections.
